What Is CAM? (Complementary
and Alternative Medicine)
Generally
speaking, Complementary medicine is used along with conventional medicine
to address an illness or disease. For example, using supplements to
assist the body's immune system, or using aromatherapy to ease discomfort
of a medical procedure, would be considered as being Complementary.
Alternative medicine, on the other hand, is believed by most to be
used instead of conventional or western medicine. However, there is
no reason why 'Alternative' medicine can not also be used as 'Complementary'
medicine! When it comes to your optimal health, the only rule is what
works best for you! For a better understanding of CAM, go here.
CAM consists of a wide varity of both diagnostic and therapeutic healing
methods, some of which are Acupuncture, Aromatherapy, Ayurvedic medicine,
Chiropractic medicne, Diet therapy, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Holistic
healing, Hyposis, Meditation, Massage therapy, Tai Chi, Reflexology,
Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yoga, and Reiki, to mention a few!

reiki
(reiˇki) (ra´ke)
[Japanese,
from rei spirit-guided + ki vital energy] a healing tradition
of Eastern origin whose purpose is to rebalance the complex
energy systems that compose the body when they have become out
of balance. This unbalancing may have physical manifestations,
which can be relieved by the channeling of energy from an unlimited
universal energy source through the hands of the practitioner.
